The Permian Basin is the most prolific oil-producing region of the nation. It is, also, a target for drug cartels, human trafficking, and oil theft.

Oil and oilfield equipment theft endangers our lives, jobs, families, and national security. It costs operators and service companies millions of dollars a year, often causing smaller "mom and pop" operations to go out of business.

Oil & Gas Workers Association has been working with Congressman Tony Gonzales (TX-23) on this issue for over two years. We are grateful for Rep. Gonzales's work to pass the "Protect the Permian Act" and get more federal funding to support our Law Enforcement Officers and Texas state agencies.

Last year, Permian Basin State Senator Kevin Sparks and State Representative Brooks Landgraf passed legislation signed by Governor Abbott to combat oilfield theft.

We brought together some of these elected representatives, Railroad Commission Chairman Jim Wright, State Senator Mayes Middleton, Midland County Judge Terry Johnson, Permian Basin Law Enforcement Officers, our friends at American Truckers United, and operator and service company representatives to talk about this growing threat to our oilfield jobs and find solutions.
